Banyoles
Banyoles, the capital of the Pla de l'Estany region in Girona, is one of Catalonia's most iconic natural destinations. Its famous Lake Banyoles, the largest natural lake in Catalonia, is one of the best places to cool off during the summer, thanks to its swimming areas, water sports and scenic lakeside walks. Its medieval old town features charming stone streets, picturesque squares and a unique network of canals running through the historic centre.
Banyoles is an ideal destination for hiking, cycling, rowing, kayaking or simply enjoying nature. Its privileged location provides easy access to the nearby Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, medieval towns such as Besalú and natural spots like the Sant Margarida Pool. It is also just a few kilometres from Girona and a little over an hour from Barcelona.
The excellent gastronomy of the Pla de l'Estany region and its proximity to some of the best hotels in Girona make it easy to combine nature, relaxation and fine cuisine. Banyoles is also an excellent base for exploring inland Girona and the Costa Brava.
