We recommend: Monells, Palau-Sator, Sant Martí Vell, Cruïlles and Madremanya. All five are full of charm and have far fewer tourists, as they are less well-known.

You can visit these villages on your own, each one takes around 30 minutes to explore, or hop on the Xiulet de Pals train, a fun way to tour the medieval villages of the Empordà. The route includes a guided visit to Peratallada and Palau-Sator, two gems full of history and character.
